Who is Kyle Dreger?
Kyle’s experience in criminal law started when he began working for the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office in their Criminal Division. He analyzed misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor criminal cases, made probable cause determinations, and exercised discretion to offer plea agreements to defendants. During each first-appearance calendar, he handled up to 70 individual criminal cases, and he got his first trial experience under his belt handling “petty trials” for traffic violations.
After a year, Kyle next began working for the Appelman Law Firm. He provided litigation support to the attorneys by researching and drafting memos and motions, gathering witness and victim statements, and serving subpoenas. His work focused on cases ranging from DWI to even serious drug or assaultive crimes.
Kyle also participated in UST Law’s Misdemeanor Defense Clinic and worked for the Dakota County Public Defender’s Office. There he spent almost every hour of his time in a courtroom. He handled bail hearings, pre-trials, and juvenile court hearings throughout his year with the office.

What Kyle does when he’s not defending clients
Kyle grew up in Manitowoc, WI, and from the very beginning, sports played a huge part in his life. He played baseball, basketball, and football up and through the varsity level in high school before accepting a scholarship to play collegiate baseball in Kansas City, Kansas. After one year he transferred to Viterbo University to finish his playing career. He was awarded All-Conference honors, a conference gold glove award for his play at 3rd base, and was voted as team captain his final two years.
Although his baseball career is over, Kyle still plays slow pitch softball and adult league basketball to stay active. And his new goal, is to maintain a single digit handicap in golf. Since he grew up in Wisconsin, Kyle is a big Brewers, Packers, Bucks and Badgers sports fan. He lives in Bloomington with his beautiful wife, Abby, and his little boy, Miles.
Playing baseball through the college level taught him key values he uses when representing his clients: determination, preparation, and passion. Growing up playing baseball taught him that preparation is necessary, and he needs to be comfortable in stressful situations. The world of criminal law is fast paced, full of curve balls, and sometimes its pretty uncomfortable… but it is what he does, day in and day out. It is a big responsibility to guide a client through his or her case, and he looks forward to being the one going to bat for him or her each and every time.
